BACOLOD City – Suspected shabu valued at around P47.6 million was seized in an antidrug operation in Sitio Tipolo Bridge in Cebu City’s Barangay Guadalupe yesterday morning.
Citing intelligence information, Police Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro, director of Police Regional Office in Central Visayas, said the suspected illegal drugs placed inside tea bags came from San Carlos City, Negros Oriental, and was shipped to Cebu through the Toledo City port.
Police identified the arrested suspects as 32-year-old Rolando Ondoy Romeo; 42-year-old Calvin Valdez; and 24-year-old Edward Romeo, all of whom residents of Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City.
Prior to entrapment operation, the suspects were subjected to almost two months of surveillance.
Police Colonel Josefino Ligan, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said the suspected shabu was addressed to Rolando.
He was the one who allegedly picked up the package, which was sent by a certain Rustico Ygot, an inmate of a penal farm in Zamboanga City.
The drugs were intended to be sold not just in Cebu City, but for the whole province.
The suspects, meanwhile, claimed they were ordered to pick-up the package and are unaware that it contains illegal drugs.
They were detained and charged with violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
