ILOILO City – A representative from Davao City turned over to the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main Campus on Luna Street, La Paz district P50 million for the rehabilitation of its Cultural Center.
The amount was allocated under the 2018 national budget, according to Karlo Alexei Nograles, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations.
But the WVSU administration asked for additional funding, Nograles said.
University president Dr. Luis M. Sorolla Jr. invited the congressman to grace the school’s 116th founding anniversary.
Nograles said he plans to include the request in the proposed 2019 national budget.
The congressman said they hope to start the budget hearings in August after Malacañang releases its proposed budget during the State of the Nation Address of President Rodrigo Duterte in July.
“Titingnan namin kung ilan ang i-approve for WVSU at kung ano pa ang pwede nating maitulong para madagdagan iyong mga proyekto sa WVSU,” Nograles said.
Sorolla thanked Nograles for bringing the P50-million rehabilitation funding to the university.
The university president said Nograles may have appreciated that the WVSU was performing well, especially in its nursing and education programs./PN
