P53M for road paving project in Oton

ILOILO City – The San Antonio-Lambuyao and Abilay Sur Road in the municipality of Oton, Iloilo will be concreted.

A total of P52,864,116.40 has been allotted for the 3.5-kilometer provincial road paving project, said Engr. Gracianito Lucero, chief of the Provincial Engineer’s Office.

Residents of barangays San Antonio, Lambuyao and Abilay Sur stand to benefit from the project.

The project is part of the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces for Road Repair, Rehabilitation and Improvement of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Lucero clarified that the 3.5 km cover only the first phase of the project.

The Interior department will provide an additional P20 million next year for the entire road to be completely paved, he said.

Phase 1 of the project started Sept. 16 – its target completion is within 230 calendar days – but the groundbreaking ceremony for the project was scheduled only today.

Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr., Mayor Carina Flores of Oton and DILG provincial director Teodora Sumagaysay will lead the ceremony.

According to Lucero, Phase 2 covers less than 1 km. He estimated the entire road project to be around 4 km.

Other projects in Iloilo funded under the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces were the rehabilitation/improvement of the Poblacion-Zarragoza Road, Balasan (P35,833,888) and the rehabilitation/improvement of Jelicuon-Amiroy-Mina Road, New Lucena/Mina (two road sections, P64,131,937).

This grant for well-performing provinces was previously called the KALSADA (Konkreto at Ayos na Lansangan ang Daan tungo sa Pangkalahatang Kaunlaran) project./PN
