ILOILO – A P60-million concrete bridge in Barangay Tubang, Maasin town was officially opened to the public on February 18.
It is expected to benefit 16 barangays in Maasin.
Prior to the bridge’s completion, residents had to use an overflow route to access essential services such as schools, work, healthcare, and the local market.
However, during heavy rains, the water level in the overflow would rise, making it impassable and causing significant inconvenience.
“We have been working hard to ensure that a beautiful bridge would be constructed for Barangay Tubang because this area serves as a passage for 16 barangays leading to the town center. Before, residents had to rely on the overflow, but when the water level rose, they could no longer cross. This caused a lot of difficulties,” said Cong. Lorenz Defensor of the 3rd District where Maasin is located.
The bridge is a collaborative project of the provincial government of Iloilo, the congressional district office of Defensor, and Uswag Ilonggo party-list.
Barangay Tubang serves as a key route for residents of 16 surrounding barangays traveling to the town center.
“We are truly thankful for this bridge. When it rained, we couldn’t cross the overflow, and motorists had to find alternative routes just to reach the town. This bridge is a great help to us,” said Barangay Captain Aurelia Miado of Tubang./PN
