ILOILO City – A drug bust in Barangay Calumpang, Molo district led to the arrest of a regional top-listed drug suspect.

The operation, executed by the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), resulted in the confiscation of 1,100 grams of suspected shabu worth P7.5 million, the largest drug haul in Iloilo City so far this year.

The suspect was identified as a 48-year-old male, alias “Ariane,” from Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.

A suspected accomplice was also caught in the March 4 operation – a 32-year-old security guard from Capiz.

The two were arrested during a buy-bust operation at approximately 3 p.m. “Ariane” did not know he was transacting with a police operative.

The confiscated shabu were packed in 39 heat-sealed plastic sachets and four knot-tied plastic packs.

Authorities also seized buy-bust money and other non-drug-related paraphernalia.

Shabu is the street name for methamphetamine hydrochloride, a powerful and highly addictive stimulant drug. It is often found in the form of white crystals or powder and is commonly used for its euphoric and energizing effects.

Shabu is known to cause a range of harmful physical and mental health issues, including addiction, anxiety, paranoia, hallucinations, and severe damage to organs such as the heart and brain. It is illegal in most countries, including the Philippines, where it is a major focus of anti-drug campaigns due to its widespread abuse.

ICPO director Police Colonel Kim P. Legada reiterated the police force’s commitment to dismantling illegal drug syndicates in Iloilo City.

“This operation is a clear message to those involved in the drug trade – we will continue to pursue and bring you to justice,” Legada said.

Mayor Jerry Treñas praised the operation.

“This is proof of our serious commitment to keeping Iloilo City safe and free from the destructive influence of illegal drugs,” he said, commending both the ICPO and Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) for their efforts.

The suspects face criminal charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act./PN
