ILOILO City – The city government’s Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) was able to collect over P7,000 on the first day of the implementation of the Paid Parking Ordinance on Monday, May 15.

LEEO chief Maricel Mabaquiao said most of the parked vehicles stayed all day in eight areas designated for paid parking; most of the owners were employees of schools and government and private agencies.

Some vehicle owners have no idea about the ordinance. The LEEO said it will strengthen its information dissemination drive.

Mabaquiao also said that they need to strategize to further improve the ordinance’s implementation.

One of these is to deploy their personnel as early as 7 a.m. to the designated eight paid parking areas so they can check on the parked vehicles.

Iloilo City Regulation Ordinance (RO) 2020-130, amending RO 2009-216, reestablished parking areas for all vehicles.

Ever since the original ordinance was passed in 2009, no parking fees were collected, considering the lack of personnel of the City Treasurer’s Office as the implementing office.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, who earlier appealed for support from the public, said the fee is only minimal but can still help in augmenting the resources of the city government especially with the decrease of the city’s Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

Here is the list of parking spaces subjected to the imposition of parking fees:

* Calasanz Street fronting San Jose Church, perpendicular parking both sides;

* Ortiz Street, parallel parking both sides;

* Guanco Street, diagonal parking on the left side (across Iloilo Central Market);

* Aldeguer Street, diagonal parking on the left side (across Iloilo Central Market);

* Arsenal Street, parallel parking both sides;

* Solis Street, parallel parking both sides;

* Zamora Street, parallel parking both sides; and

* Macario Peralta Street, parallel parking both sides except front of the Bureau of Fire Protection and Office of the Congressman

Motor vehicle owners and/or persons in charge of motor vehicles will be charged the following rates:

* Motorcycles – P15 for the first two hours and P5 per hour for the succeeding hours

* Tricycle – P20 for the first two hours and P5 per hour for the succeeding hours

* Light Vehicles – P25 for the first two hours and P5 per hour for the succeeding hours, and

* Medium vehicles (delivery trucks) – P30 for the first two hours and P5 per hour for the succeeding hours./PN
