BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia defended the P8-million financial assistance the city government gave the Bacolod City Government Employees Union.

Leonardia said the Employees’ Union used the amount for its Year-End Assessment from Dec. 27 to 29, 2017.

Task Force Kasanag national commander John Chiong wrote President Rodrigo Duterte on Jan. 6 requesting the Office of the President to investigate the P8-million aid.

Chiong described it as a “wanton and scheming use of government power to divert government funds into an anomalous activity and transaction.”

Aside from the Year-End Assessment, part of the amount was used for the employees’ Christmas Party, Leonardia said.

The P8 million used for three days was “cheaper” than the P5 million that the previous administration used for a one-day event, said the mayor.

Leonardia said he believes all employees benefited from the financial assistance.

City hall is ready to answer if Malacañang inquires, he stressed.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlungsod asked the Employees’ Union to submit a detailed financial report on how the aid was used./PN
