BACOLOD City – An estimated P9 million worth of jewelry were carted away from a mall in Silay City, Negros Occidental early Thursday morning, Feb. 16.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Mark Anthony Darroca, Silay City police chief, said closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras captured three unidentified burglars breaking into the Gaisano Mall Silay at around 1:14 a.m.
The robbers, wearing jackets and bonnets, gained access to the mall by drilling a hole on the concrete wall, Darroca said.
Once inside the mall’s grocery store, the robbers immediately went to the Yung Luck kiosk and destroyed the locks of the roll-up door using a bolt cutter.
Darroca said they are coordinating with other police intelligence units, especially the Bacolod City Police Office and Police Regional Office 6, if they are monitoring new criminal groups either operating or have recently entered Negros Occidental.
Police are also not ruling out the possibility of an “inside job”. Investigation is still ongoing./PN
