PACE execs volunteer as first drug test takers

BACOLOD City — Officers of the Progressive Alliance of Capitol Employees (PACE) have volunteered to be the first ones to take the drug test that Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. plans to require of capitol workers.

Dino Gasendo, PACE president, yesterday said they were “supporting the governor’s plan to conduct a drug test among provincial government employees.”

“We will set an example,” Gasendo said.

Marañon had said he believes some capitol employees are using illegal drugs.

“We hope there is no capitol employee who uses illegal drugs,” Gasendo said.

He urged his fellow employees, especially those near retirement, to avoid illegal drugs so as not to jeopardize their jobs and benefits.

For his part, Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is confident that elected provincial government officials will test negative for drugs.

He said the result of a random drug test on him would only show his cholesterol and blood sugar levels./PN
