MANILA – Filipino ring icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao feels that he is near the end of his boxing career after showing signs of struggle while preparing for his title defense against Australian Jeff Horn next Sunday in Brisbane, Australia.

Unlike when he was younger, his now body takes a longer time to recover after his training sessions, the WBO welterweight champion said.

“I tried to push myself pero iba iyong nararamdaman ko noong 20-plus [pa lang ako]. Noong 25 years old, when you work hard in training, overnight lang fully recovered ka na,” said Pacquiao, who flew with his team to Australia on Saturday morning.

Pero ganito pala ’pag may edad ka na. When you work hard, it would take time to recover your strength, unlike noong bata-bata pa tayo,” he added. “So, more rest ako after training.”

This does not mean he is not ready for his upcoming match against Horn.

In fact, he targets to finish off the cocky Australian via stoppage, Pacquiao said.

“Fight mode na tayo,” he said. “Not a cause for concern iyong medyo matagal na recovery time after ng ensayo. Naka-focus na tayo sa laban. Tingnan natin (kung kaya ng knockout).”

Walang talo iyong kalaban kaya hindi natin pwedeng i-underestimate,” the eight-division world boxing champion added. “Kaya iyong ginawa natin [is we made] sure na 100-percent conditioned [tayo] para sa fight.”

Pacquiao, now 38, has a 59-6-2 win-loss-draw ring record, including 38 stoppage wins after his unanimous-decision victory over Jessie Vargas in Las Vegas, Nevada in November 2016.

Meanwhile Horn, 28, has an unblemished 16-0-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including 11 stoppage victories. He currently holds the WBO and IBF Intercontinental welterweight championship./PN
