MANILA – Reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao seems to have shunned Australian Jeff Horn as he admitted to be negotiating with British Amir Khan for his next bout.
In a post on his Twitter account on Thursday, the Filipino ring icon confirmed that he is negotiating with Khan for his title defense this coming summer to be held in Dubai.
Top Rank Promotions head Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, had earlier named the infamous Horn as Pacquiao’s next opponent in a bout that should have been held this April in Australia.
“My team and I are in negotiations with Amir Khan for our next fight. Further announcement coming soon,” Pacquiao wrote on his Twitter account on Thursday morning.
Pacquiao also said that his decision to negotiate with Khan was following the result of a survey asking his fans who they’d like him to face next, among the voting options were American boxers Kell Brook and Terrence Crawford.
In the result of the said survey done on Feb. 13, Khan topped with 48 percent followed by Brook with 24 percent, Crawford with 21 percent and Horn with seven percent.
The 38-year-old Pacquiao has a 59-6-2 win-loss-draw ring record including 38 stoppage wins. He comes from unanimous decision win over Jessie Vargas on November 2015.
The 31-year-old Khan, who was previously a Pacquiao sparring mate, has 31-4-0 record, with 19 knockout wins. His last fight was on May, 2015 when he was knocked down by Canelo Alvarez./PN
