MANILA – Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao is slowly reaching his peak form ahead of his WBA Super welterweight title clash with Keith Thurman on July 21 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Strength and conditioning coach Justine Fortune said in an interview that the changes in Pacquiao’s habits have helped him maintained his fighting form despite already being 40 years-old.
“He knocks out this guy (Thurman), he’ll do a fourth in December then he becomes Fighter of the Year again,” Fortune said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
“He’s good, he’s doing proper now, he’s training himself right, he’s slowing down when he needs to. We’ve been fighting a lot smarter, and training a lot smarter than before,” he added.
Pacquiao, for his part, said he is more than ready for his upcoming match and is looking forward to shut down the cocky Thurman to have another match later this year, possibly against Amir Khan.
“I’m OK, nothing to worry about. God is good, OK naman ang disiplina natin,” the fighting senator said.
Pacquiao will be entering the match with 61-7-2 win-loss-draw ring record, with 39 stoppage wins, while Thurmanhas a perfect 29-0-0 boxing record, with 22 stoppage wins./PN
