MANILA – Once again the world title bout between Manny Pacquiao and WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse of Argentina has been rescheduled.
Without citing any reason this time, Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya posted on Twitter on Tuesday that the match will be held on July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“Signed, sealed and delivered: Proud to officially announce that WBA welterweight world champion @MatthysseLucas will put his title on the line against @mannypacquiao in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Saturday night July 14 (US time),” the tweet read.
This will be Matthysse’s second time to stake his world title after defeating Tewa Kiram of Thailand in January.
Pacquiao, who is returning to the ring for the first time since his controversial defeat to Australian Jeff Horn, confirmed the development in another tweet hours later.
“It’s on. Can’t wait to challenge Lucas Matthysse for another world title on July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – July 14 US time #Pacmanisback,” read the tweet.
This will be Pacquiao’s first fight in Asia since beating Chris Algieri in Macau in 2014.
Pacquiao will enter the match wielding a 59-7-2 record with 38 knockout wins while Matthysse has 39-4-0 with 36 stoppage victories./PN
