BACOLOD City – Tropical Storm “Paeng” over the weekend stranded hundreds of sea travelers bound for other parts of Western Visayas, Central Visayas and Luzon ahead of the Undas travel season.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Northern Negros Occidental Station counted at least 496 stranded passengers in various ports in the province.
Around 231 rolling cargoes got stuck, too, at seaports between Friday and Saturday.
Around 116 Iloilo-bound travelers were stranded at the BREDCO port in Bacolod City.
The city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) transferred several of the travelers to the Barangay Taculing Evacuation and Temporary Shelter.
The Philippine Red Cross and the Philippine Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade, meanwhile, provided hot food for the stranded passengers.
Sea travel in the province was restored around late Saturday night, Oct. 29, after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration lifted the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal #1 in the province./PN
