BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Provincial Government is taking steps to improve the facilities of the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz said they are planning to begin renovations this year and that the Provincial Engineer’s Office is currently finalizing the plans.

Diaz said that once completed, it could host school activities and sporting events for youth development.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Government is also planning to collaborate with the province to use it as one of the venues for this year’s Masskara Festival.

In October last year, the sports complex hosted the festival dance competition of the MassKara Festival.

The Paglaum Sports Complex was established in the 1970s during the administration of Gov. Alfredo Montelibano Jr. and has hosted three editions of the Palarong Pambansa – 1971, 1974, 1979).

During the onslaught of Super Typhoon “Odette” in 2021, it suffered extensive damage although some portions have since been repaired. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
