PAKISTAN – A Pakistani general was sentenced to life for spying by a military court that gave death sentences to a brigadier and a civil officer.

Pakistan’s army said the trio was charged with espionage and leaking “sensitive information to foreign agencies.”

It added that Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa “endorsed” their sentences.

Lieutenant General Javed Iqbal (retired) will serve 14 years of “rigorous imprisonment” – a life term in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s army has its own court system and those convicted were able to appeal. (BBC)
