MANILA – The Malacañang on Saturday assured the public that security measures for the 30th AseanSummit are in place despite the late Friday evening explosion in Manila’s Quiapo district where several people were reported injured.
“An initial police investigation shows the motive for the incident was possibly [triggered by] gang war, and not in any way connected or directed to the ongoing Asean Summit,” presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella told reporters.
“We assure our people that security measures are in place in today’s event. We also ask the public for their full understanding and cooperation in this regard,” he added.
At 10:48 p.m. on Friday night, a home-made pipe bomb exploded at the corner of Quezon Boulevard and Soler Street. At least 14 people were reported hurt.
Police chief director general Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa immediately inspected “ground zero.”
