Palace defends Duterte’s statement vs VP Leni

MANILA – Palace said President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement that Vice President Leni Robredo is not qualified to be his successor, was based on his personal assessment.

Dahil siya ay naging president, alam niya ‘yung mga kakayahan na kinakailangan para maging president,” Roque said on Wednesday.

In his public address on Monday evening, Duterte blasted Robredo for criticizing his decision to demand payment from the United States to continue the Visiting Forces Agreement.

He advised Robredo to take a “refresher course” in law and said she is unfit to be his successor. Robredo countered his statement saying that decision whether she is fit or not to be the next president lies in the hands of the voters and not him.

Roque, however, said that Duterte is part of Filipino voters who will choose the country’s next president in 2022.

Robredo, meanwhile, refused to reveal her political plans for the upcoming national polls because she wanted to focus on helping Filipinos in this pandemic.

Dadating ‘yun. Siguro pagnakabuwelo na tayo sa vaccine. Pag mas settled na lahat, mas may panahon na tayo para tutukan ‘yung plano,” Robredo said on Tuesday. /PN
