DUMAGUETE City – An official from the Office of the President vowed to help the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office get funds and resources to boost its law enforcement capabilities.

Assistant Secretary Gaspar Ramon Villegas, director of communications, paid a courtesy call on Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, acting provincial police director, at Camp Fernandez in Barangay Agan-an, Sibulan town.

Villegas said he will propose to Director General Ronald Dela Rosa, Philippine National Police chief, to give the Negros Oriental police priority for their accomplishments, especially in the antidrug campaign.

A native of Tanjay City, Villegas noted the improvement in the local police’s antinarcotics campaign.

He believes the police in the province should be provided with more police stations and the existing ones should be renovated.

They also need more patrol cars; having old vehicles is “embarrassing” and will lower the police’s morale, said Villegas. Police stations also need computers and motorbikes, the Palace official added.

Villegas said he would discuss with Interior secretary Ismael Sueno what additional aid could be given to the Negros Oriental police. (PNA)
