MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. skipped this year’s edition of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Singapore, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
According to Presidential Communications Acting Secretary Cesar Chavez, the Chief Executive is in the country on Sunday to attend to some personal matters.
“He [Marcos] did not go to Singapore,” Chavez said in a statement. “(He it at) home with family, shoot the weekly vlog, review and signed some documents.”
In October 2022, President Marcos drew flak over an unannounced travel to Singapore to watch the F1 Grand Prix while the country was hit by Super Typhoon Karding.
Last year, the Chief Executive once again viewed the F1 Grand Prix upon the invitation of former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
First Lady Liza Marcos defended Marcos’ presence last year as all about networking with the world’s top government and business leaders.
President Marcos was recently criticized online for his lavish birthday party at a hotel in Pasay City that included a guest performance by English rock band Duran Duran.
Malacañang, however, defended that the appearance of Duran Duran was paid by President Marcos’ “old friends.”/PN
