Palace: Revolutionary gov’t not a priority

MANILA – Forming a revolutionary government is not a priority for the Duterte administration with the country currently under coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte is not interested on having a revolutionary government as he is looking forward to end his term in 2022.

Nilinaw po natin na ang Presidente ay pinuno ng isang Constitutional government at hindi kinakailangan ng revolutionary government sa ngayon,” Roque said in a virtual press conference.

“That is a private initiative and is not part of President Duterte’s current priorities. Nakatutok siya ngayon sa COVID-19 response, at paulit-ulit niya nang sinabi na he is looking forward to the end of his term in 2022,” he added.

Roque, however, said that he sees nothing illegal with the assembly to call for the establishment of a revolutionary government as they are free to publicly express their opinion.

“Consistent po ang ating hukuman pagdating sa desisyon nila ukol sa malayang pamamahayag. Wala naman pong clear and present danger dahil ang Presidente ay nakatutok sa COVID-19,” Roque said.
