BACOLOD City – The city government here cited Panay News for contributing to public safety, most especially during disasters and the ongoing pandemic, by delivering real-time information.
According to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the No. 1 regional newspaper consistently brought “real-time news and information straight to every Bacolodnon.”
“People are warned of natural, man-made and biological threats affecting them, especially the challenges brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic,” it added.
The city government under Mayor Evelio Leonardia also commended Panay News “for supporting the government into fulfilling its mission of competent, accountable and transparent public service.”
A Certificate of Recognition was thus bestowed to Panay News timed with the city government’s observance of the 2021 National Disaster Resilience Month on July 29, 2021.
“Your contribution in making Bacolod City a safer, stronger, climate change-adaptive and disaster-resilient community is recognized,” read part of the citation.
Panay News marked its 40th anniversary just this April, one of the longest-serving media organizations in Western Visayas./PN
