ANTIQUE – To ensure preparedness in times of calamity, local government employees of Pandan town participated in the nationwide simultaneous earthquake drill on Sept. 8.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) headed by Arnold D. Demegillo led the drill at the Pandan municipal hall.

Demegillo discussed the importance of drills in preparing the community for calamities. Thereafter, a siren signaled the start of the drill. Municipal employees performed the “drop, cover and hold” within their respective offices.

An evacuation of the building followed; employees headed towards the nearest open space in the town’s People’s Park.

Pandan local government’s earthquake drill was in accordance with Republic Act 10121, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, which aims to reduce risks during an earthquake or other geological hazards through disaster preparedness interventions such as drills and services.

These efforts to train and ensure the readiness of the Filipino people in any calamity are spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council./PN
