KALIBO, Aklan – Kalibo International Airport is seeing high traffic as things slowly turn around in the ‘new normal.
Airport flights in Kalibo have far exceeded the flights last year, although, it is still not returned to pre-pandemic numbers.
As it stands, Philippines AirAsia, Cebu Pacific, and Philippine Airlines have operated five to six flights daily with no less than 150 passenger capacity.
Kalibo airport operates about 12 hours, 7 days a week during the pandemic, but it will adjust for international air travel in the coming months.
“It is time for us to recover from pandemic. We have some foreigners in domestic flights to Kalibo. Nakita natun ang pagdamu sang mga pasahero nga naga-agi sa airport bangud sa pagnubo sang alert level,” said Kalibo airport manager Engr. Eusebio Monserate, Jr.
Since the onset of the pandemic, the restrictions saw people canceling their bookings and flights.
As more restrictions are loosened, international travelers began flying into airports to give more opportunities to visit Boracay Island.
Boracay Island drew more than 80,000 domestic tourists and 353 foreigners in February, while the island welcomed 41,176 tourists from March 1 to 9.
Resort and hotel operators in Boracay Island also have bookings improve as the summer travel season approaches.
In February this year, foreign tourists who entered the island in nearly two years are required to present their vaccination cards or certificates, without quarantine./PN
