Paraw Regatta job fair for seafarers today

ILOILO City – A job fair for seafarers organized by the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc. is scheduled today at the second floor of SM City Iloilo.

As of this writing yesterday morning three maritime job placement companies already confirmed their participation, according to Francisco Heler Jr., head of the Iloilo provincial government’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) that agreed to help upon the request of Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc. president Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian.

The job fair starts at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m.

Applicants must bring with them necessary documents such as resumé, transcript of record, diploma, and valid identification card, among others.

The seafarers’ job fair is one of several activities in line with the annual Paraw Regatta, a race of wind-propelled double outrigger sailboats called paraw on the Iloilo Strait between this city and Guimaras province.

The race is on Feb. 17.

Heler thanked the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Foundation, Inc. for inviting PESO Iloilo to be a partner in the job fair.

PESO Iloilo became a “hall of famer” in 2018 in the annual nationwide search for outstanding PESOs. It bagged the National Best Peso Award (first-class province category) thrice – in 2017, 2016 and 2015.

Heler said among PESO Iloilo’s “best practices” were referral and job placements, career coaching and employment orientation of students, job fairs, establishing a PESO Employment Information System, and tapping barangay PESO coordinators./PN
