PARENTS, especially moms, are really hands-on by this time. They not only care about their own immediate family but also everyone in their household. Mother always worries about everything, from clothes, food and the health of the family. They are also the decision-maker when a father is not around.
During this pandemic, mothers are the busiest. As a mother myself, experiencing the most terrifying and saddest part, I have been worried and asking when all of this would end?
That’s why I’ve been urging fellow “moms” to be vaccinated if vaccines are available. Not just COVID-19 vaccines but also flu, pneumonia and polio for their kids. These are given free at your local health centers. One group I keep on checking is the Facebook group “BakuNanay”. Talking with other moms, could help you to understand how vaccinations work.
Team ‘BakuNanay’
Parents from Doc Nanay and Team BakuNanay recognize the importance of getting vaccinated as a means of helping protect the community and our healthcare workers.
“Our group will continue raising awareness and informing other parents about the importance of getting vaccinated not just against COVID but also from flu and pneumonia so we can all protect each other, especially our healthcare workers,” said Team BakuNanay’’s Community Manager Ara Casas-Tumuran.
“BakuNanay” stands for “Bakuna Nanay”. Is an inclusive, non-judgmental community of moms who believe in the effectiveness of vaccines and how it can help protect their families.
Parents in this group also emphasized that helping our frontliners and health workers’ families be vaccinated will help their mental burden at ease.
On healthcare workers
Healthcare workers are a struggling army. When the pandemic struck, a lot of them got sick and contracted the virus, a number of them died, and many struggled with their mental health. They’re pushed to their limits. It’s becoming a human health crisis. Protecting and empowering their tireless and passionate effort to fight against COVID-19 could help them.
During a Facebook live event organized by Doc Nanay and supported by Team BakuNanay and the theAsianparent Philippines, Dr. Janette Garin, former Health secretary and now Iloilo 1st District representative, called on the public, especially parents, to help our Health Care Workers (HCWs) by protecting their families and loved ones through vaccination.
Garin said that healthcare workers have been protecting the public since the pandemic started and now, it’s our time to protect them. She stressed the importance of strictly observing at least the minimum health standards, the importance of reporting, isolation, and protection through vaccination, not just from COVID 19 but with other vaccine-preventable diseases.
“Every parent that helps prevent infection or transmission contributes a lot in helping unburden our HCWs. Let’s all do our part,” Garin quipped.
