GUIMARAS – The provincial government of Guimaras will once again bring Christmas cheer through joyous festivities and dazzling lights at the Provincial Capitol Complex in Barangay San Miguel, Jordan.
Paskwa sa Isla 2023 will kick off on Dec. 1 with a lights-on ceremony in front of the Guimaras Museum, and concurrently, there will be a judging of entries for the Light-a-Tree and Christmas Tree-Making Contest.
Various activities, such as “Parlorlympics,” the Cheers and Yells Contest, and the opening of the Christmas Bazaar, usher the lights on ceremony.
Events are featured every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until Dec. 22.
Now in its second year, Paskwa sa Isla is expected to aid the island’s micro, small, and medium enterprises and will provide Guimarasnons with a platform to showcase their talents.
This special event in celebration of the Yuletide season seeks to create avenues for family and community gatherings as well as promote the island as a holiday destination.
Health and fitness activities, live bands and busking, dance and talent competitions, parol-making contests, and a trade fair that showcases various “naturally Guimaras” products are lined up to bring together the community during Christmas weekends.
Last year, Paskwa sa Isla kicked off on Dec. 2 with a lights-on ceremony in front of the museum.
At the same time, the provincial government held a Bangus Day featuring bangus harvests by local fish farmers on the island, a children’s Christmas costume party, and a Zumba contest, among others./PN
