ILOILO City – An early morning road accident yesterday in Barangay Sambag, Jaro district left three vehicles with various degrees of damage, and one passenger hurt.

A tricycle had a head-on collision with a service vehicle – a Mitsubishi Adventure – of The Medical City around 5:30 a.m.

The L300 van tailing the Adventure also crashed against The Medical City vehicle.

The tricycle’s passenger was thrown out of the vehicle, according to residents of Barangay Sambag who witnessed the freak accident. He was only identified as “Wally”. His head was injured.

The drivers and passengers of the other vehicles were safe.

Tricycle driver Mandy Rafil of Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo was safe, too. He denied he was drunk as some barangay residents had alleged.

Rafil instead blamed the darkness for the accident.

At the time of the accident, that long stretch of road in Barangay Sambag was closed to traffic for a fun run.

But there were no signs indicating a road closure, and there were no traffic enforcers or policemen around, observed the village residents./PN
