ILOILO — Passenger ship MV Filipinas Cebu ran aground in the shallow waters between the islands of Igbon and Agho in Concepcion town around 12:08 a.m. yesterday.

Operated by Cokaliong Shipping Lines, the ship was bound for Cebu; it left Iloilo around 7:14 p.m. on Aug. 8.

It had 223 passengers in total; three of these were children. It had 38 crew on board.

All the passengers and crew were safe and unharmed, according to Lieutenant Commander Paterno Belarmino Jr., of the Philippine Coast Guard.

MV Filipinas Cebu has a capacity of 686 passengers.

Ang investigation ay ongoing sa Concepcion. There will be an underwater inspection. The log book will be checked,” said Belarmino.  

The shipping line deployed MV Nasipit to provide assistance to the passengers and crew of MV Filipinas Cebu.

The Bureau of Customs also deployed a fast boat with two Coast Guard Special Operation Unit (SOU) personnel./PN
