ILOILO City – A businesswoman lost P10,000 to two holdup men in Barangay Man-it, Passi City.
Minutes after, one of the suspects was killed and his companion arrested.
The robbery was carried out around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, according to 55-year-old Elisa Pacardo who operated a water refilling station at the Passi City public market.
The suspects were Kenneth John Servando, 23, of Barangay Mapili, San Enrique, Iloilo and Niemar Bechosa, 19, of Barangay Alimono, Passi City.
Servando got hit by his own 12-gauge shotgun when it accidentally went off during a grappling with a barangay tanod.
Bechosa, on the other hand, was detained at the Passi City police station.
Pacardo was on her way home when the two men blocked her tricycle then declared a holdup. After the two left, she immediately sought help, according to Superintendent Ruby Gumban, Passi City police chief.
The police station alerted the barangay tanods of Man-it and nearby Barangay Batu. A manhunt was launched.
The two suspects were apprehended but an armed Servando resisted arrest. Barangay Man-it tanod Edwin Barcelona tried to disarm him. The shotgun went off during their grappling.
Servando died of a gunshot wound in the back.
Gumban, however, said Pacardo’s P10,000 could no longer be found. Bechosa claimed it was with Servando but the police said no money was found in the slain suspect’s possession.
This was the second time Pacardo was robbed this year. Just this Jan. 3 she lost P30,000 cash and a mobile phone to three armed men wearing bonnets. As of this writing, the suspects in this case were yet to be identified.
Gumban said Servando and Bechosa were not the ones who robbed Pacardo on Jan. 3
From what the Passi police so far gathered, Servando and Bechosa were the ones who robbed a Ceres bus on Sept. 5, 2016 in Barangay Sarapan, Passi City.
The bus was on its way to Roxas City when the two declared a holdup around 8:30 p.m. and carted away bus passengers’ cellular phones and money totaling P2,000./PN
