Passi City bans mass gathering vs virus spread

ILOILO – The city government of Passi is banning mass gatherings in response to the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Mayor Stephen Palmares, the influx of large numbers of people to events like birthdays, baptism, wedding receptions, church gatherings, fiestas, seminars, workshops, and the like could lead to more COVID-19 infections.

Though allowed under the modified enhanced community quarantine status, the mayor deemed it prudent to prohibit such events.

He is expected to issue an executive order this Saturday. 

“These past weeks, we have seen an increase of COVID-19 cases. To stop the spread of the virus, we are banning all mass gatherings here,” Palmares stressed.

As of Oct. 29, Passi City had a total of 126 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Of the figure, 51 are active cases, 74 recovered and one died.

On the same day, Passi logged new 11 new cases. They were the following:

* 56-year-old male resident from Poblacion Ilawod (city government employee)

* 55-year-old female from Poblacion Ilawod (City Government Employee)

* 58-year-old male from Poblacion Ilaya

* 66-year-old male from Barangay Arac

* 45-year- old female, resident of Poblacion Ilawod (city government employee)

* 46-year-old female from Poblacion Ilaya (city government employee)

* 29-year-old male from Barangay Man-it (city government employee)

* 45-year-old male from Poblacion Ilawod

* 63-year-old male from Barangay Arac

* 45-year-old male from Barangay Aglalana and City Government Employee; and

* 45-year-old male from Barangay Nueva Union.

These additional cases had their specimens collected for swabbing on Oct. 26./PN
