ILOILO – A couple was killed in a fatal road crash in Barangay Amamaros, Pototan yesterday.
Merren and Emheel Pagtolon-an were residents of Barangay Bagacay, Passi City.
Police Staff Sergeant Raffy Gonzales of the Pototan municipal police station said the couple was homebound onboard their SUV when hit by a 10-wheeler truck. It was around 1 p.m.
The couple reportedly overtook a pickup ahead of them, Gonzales said citing witnesses, but crashed into the truck navigating the opposite direction.
Merren was rushed to the nearby Iloilo Provincial Hospital but the attending physician declared her “dead on arrival.”
Authorities were able to retrieve the body of her husband 30 minutes later. He, too, was pronounced dead.
Merren was a teacher while Emheel was a seafarer.
Their family and close friends took to social media to mourn their death.
Truck driver Regent Albacete, on the other hand, was detained at the Pototan police station. Charges of reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide will be filed against him./PN
