KALIBO, Aklan – The provincial government here will conduct a “Passport on Wheels” (POW) program next month.

“This program is intended for Aklanons who are having a hard time travelling from the province to Iloilo and we are grateful that we are able to partner with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in bringing passport services to Aklan. This initiative is in line with our government’s thrust towards good governance to provide efficient and convenient service to the people,” Vice Gov. Reynaldo Quimpo said.

Around 2,000 Aklanons have passed their applications during the registration period at the provincial trade hall last Oct. 16-18 – with P1,200 registration fee that will be paid to accredited payment centers.

On its first day, over 1,000 applicants went to the trade hall to book a passport application slot.

Present during the event were Quimpo and Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Jose Miguel Miraflores, who checked the systematic process of the event.

“This POW can be a reactive measure to address the immediate need for passport services in Aklan and hopefully the DFA can establish a satellite office here in our province.” Miraflores said.

The DFA will be in the province from Nov. 15-17 at the ABL Sports and Cultural Complex for the final processing or appointment of passport applications with the actual presence of the applicants.(With a report from Janica Anne dela Pena/Radyo Todo/PN)
