MANILA – Paul Lee bounced back from a subpar showing to tow Magnolia Hotshots to a 99-84 victory over NLEX Road Warriors in Game 2 of the PBA Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
After being limited to just 8 points in Game 1, Lee was scorching hot on the offensive end from start to finish last night for a 27-point output for Hotshots, which tied the semifinals series at 1-1.
“Motivation ko iyong Game 1 performance ko. Inisip ko kung ano iyong sasabihin ni (Road Warriors coach) Yeng (Guiao) dati kung masama ang laro ko. Iyon ang ginawa ko sa game na ito,” Lee said.
Ian Sangalang chipped in 18 markers and eight rebounds, Mark Andy Barroca had 11 markers, while Aldrech Ramos and Rome dela Rosa contributed 10 points each for Hotshots.
The victory was also a huge boost for Hotshots after learning earlier in the day that veteran big man Marc Pingris was due to be out for six to eight months due to an ACL tear on the knee.
Lee got things going for Hotshots with 10 early points for a 27-20 first quarter advantage. The lead grew further in the second period with Sangalang getting his shots from inside.
Road Warriors had a strong start in the third period to cut the deficit to seven but Hotshots managed to pull away anew with conversions from Lee for its largest lead of the match at 18 points.
JR Quiñahan and Alex Mallari led the way with 13 points apiece, while Rabeh Al-Hussaini added 10 markers for Road Warriors, which got a subpar showing from rookie Kiefer Ravena with just 9 points./PN
