BESTSELLING author Paulo Coelho took to social media to praise the 2009 film “Kinatay” directed by Brillante Mendoza.
In a Twitter post, Coelho described “Kinatay,” which stars Coco Martin, as “one of the most disturbing movies I watched in 2018.”
“Great screenplay, director, actors,” he said. “A Filipino movie that, if it was directed by Tarantino, would be shortlisted for the Oscar.”
Coelho was referring to Quentin Tarantino, whose works include “Kill Bill” and “Django Unchained,” to name a few.
Martin was ecstatic with Coelho’s praises for “Kinatay,” with the “Ang Probinsyano” star posting a screenshot of the author’s tweet on his Instagram page.
Mendoza won the Best Director award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for “Kinatay.” The movie also won two awards at the Sitges International Film Festival in Spain in the same year.
Coelho, meanwhile, is known for his works such as “The Alchemist,” “Veronica Decides to Die,” and “By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept,” to name a few. (ABS-CBN News)
