ILOILO – The municipality of Pavia, still with no confirmed case of African Swine Fever (ASF), is strengthening its control measures against the hog disease.
Neighboring Iloilo City logged its first case on Thursday, Nov. 24 – making the town now completely surrounded by areas with confirmed ASF cases.
Also encircling Pavia with ASF cases are the towns of Alimodian, Leganes, New Lucena, Oton, San Miguel, and Santa Barbara.
According to Pavia’s acting municipal veterinarian, Dr. Aron Hisole, the town has been taking measures since October when ASF was first recorded in Oton.
“Actually, start pa lang sang October, pagka-landfall gid sang aton ASF, nag-practice na dayon ya ang Pavia sang security. Halin October gina-strengthen pa gid naton ini coupled with information dissemination,” Hisole said.
Pavia will be firm in monitoring the movement of hogs going in and out of the town.
“Ga-practice man kami monitoring kag surveillance. Kag luwas sa aton checkpoints, ang mga barangay maka-mobilize just in case may mga reports sila nga nabaton,” said Hisole. “Very vigilant gid ang LGU, kag ang mga tawo man indi gusto makasulod ang virus.”
The acting municipal veterinarian also mentioned that there was no information yet on whether there were areas in Pavia included within the 500-meter radius from the ground zero in Barangay Tacas, Jaro where Iloilo City’s first ASF case was detected.
