Pavia’s Carabao-Carroza fest plows online

ILOILO – The 49th edition of Pavia’s Carabao-Carroza Festival will be live streamed via digital platforms tonight, May 31.

The virtual event aimed at easing the desolation of Pavianhons affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, according to Mayor Laurence Anthony Gorriceta.

“COVID-19 effects mental health man…By entertaining our constituents, mapahagan-hagan ta ang depression especially those in quarantine facilities,” said Gorriceta in an interview with Panay News.

“Somehow kon makatan-aw sang aton program kag palagwa-on, maka-gain man sila sang something positive and something like nga daw may palaabuton pa kita. Amo na ang aton gina-promote subong…pag-ulikid sa mental health sang aton mga pumoluyo,” he added.

The digital program will begin at 6:30 p.m.  The Virtual Pageant & Coronation Night for the festival queen will follow at 7 p.m., which can be viewed via Balita Pavianhon on Facebook and Panay Broadband Community Channel 15.

Competing for the crown will be 18 candidates from the following barangays: Aganan, Amparo, Anilao, Balabag, Purok I (Poblacion), Purok II (Poblacion), Purok III (Poblacion), Purok IV (Poblacion), Cabugao Norte, Cabugao Sur, Jibao-an, Mali-ao, Pagsanga-an, Pal-agon, Pandac, Tigum, Ungka I, and Ungka II.

Aganan’s Elaisha Losaria Pomida, 18, the reigning Carabao-Carroza Festival Queen, will be turning over the crown.

Later at the coronation night, only the parents, make-up artists and municipal and barangay officials of Pavia will be allowed to enter the municipal covered gym to witness the program.

Observance of minimum health protocols such as wearing of facemasks, hand sanitizing and social distancing will also be strictly implemented. Body temperature of the attendees will be checked.

Data (as of May 28) from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed Pavia having the highest number of COVID-19 deaths at 17, followed by Barotac Nuevo with 14, Oton (14), Santa Barbara (10), Banate (nine), Leganes (nine), Cabatuan (eight), Pototan (eight), Passi City (seven), and Estancia (six).

Pavia also had the third highest number of cumulative COVID-19 cases at 529, of which 412 have recovered.

The town, therefore, currently has 100 active cases./PN
