BACOLOD City – This city will identify areas that would soon serve as pay parking sites.

The identified areas will be submitted to the Bacolod Traffic Authority Council for approval based on the existing traffic ordinance of the city.

“The purpose of this [pay parking areas] is to regulate… so that it will not be an obstruction to our traffic rules,” said Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.

The city mayor added a private firm is also planning to convert their vacant lot located in front of the Hall of Justice into a pay parking area.

Several judges and lawyers were allegedly complaining that due to lack of parking space in the vicinity of the Hall of Justice they park their vehicles along the Gatuslao Street, the firm relayed to Benitez.

The city mayor himself noticed that some motorists are just parking their vehicles at their own convenience, regardless of the traffic rules.

Meanwhile, the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office’s (BTAO) enforcement of the clamping and towing ordinance has been effective as one way of disciplining the public with regards to traffic.

In November last year, the city government tapped the services of a private towing firm as BTAO resumed the enforcement of the clamping and towing ordinance.

City Ordinance 09-17-818 enumerates the guidelines and standards on accrediting privately owned towing companies, as well as the manner and procedure of implementing the towing, clamping, and impounding services in the city./PN
