Pay right taxes, or else…

BACOLOD City – Tax evaders in Negros Island, beware: the Bureau of Internal Revenue is coming after you.

There are still establishments not paying correct taxes in Negros Occidental, particularly this capital city, said BIR Region 12 director Eduardo Pagulayan Jr.

“We are still targeting a lot of erring taxpayers here. Despite our warnings, they are not issuing sales invoice,” said the head of the BIR office covering Negros Island and Siquijor province.

On March 19 Pagulayan led the shutdown of three establishments for under-declaration of sales and non-issuance of sales invoice.

His team padlocked the head office of general merchandise seller Blyzer Trading on Burgos Street and its branches at the Libertad public market and Barangay Sum-ag.

The operation was under the BIR’s “OplanKandado,” which suspends the operations of noncompliant businesses and enforcesthe closure of establishments violating tax laws.

After Blyzer Trading paid a P3-million penalty, the BIR lifted its closure order and the establishment and its branches were allowed to reopen on March 28,Pagulayan said.

Aside from going after establishments, the BIR was also watching out for its employees involved in corrupt practices in a bid to reach their tax collection goal, Pagulayansaid.

BIR Revenue Region 12has almost P13.2 billion in target collection this year.

The unit includes Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 76 in Victorias City, RDO No. 77 in Bacolod City and RDO No. 78 in Binalbagan town, all in Negros Occidental, and RDO No. 79 in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Last year the revenue region fell short of its P11.7 billion annual collection target, gathering only P11.2 billion.(With PNA/PN)
