MANILA – Robert Bolick Jr. had a near triple-double performance as NLEX Road Warriors prevailed over Blackwater Bossing, 104-87, in the PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The former San Beda University Red Lions guard finished with 24 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds to go with two steals as the Road Warriors kicked off their campaign under head coach Joseph Uichico on a winning note.
Myke Henry led the way for the Road Warriors with 31 points, including a four-point shot, while Robbie Herndon and Ritchie Rodger contributed 12 and 10 points, respectively, in the win.
Comfortably ahead at 89-62 early in the fourth quarter, the Road Warriors were surprised by a furious run by the Bossing, which cut the deficit to 83-94 with over two minutes in the game.
The Road Warriors, however, responded with back-to-back three-pointers from Rodger and Herndon as the lead increased to 100-85 before Bolick sealed the win with four straight points.
Christian David and Jeth Troy Rosario finished with 17 points apiece, Sedrick Barefield added 16 markers, while import Ricky Ledo struggled anew with just six points as the Bossing dropped to 0-2.
On Wednesday night, June Mar Fajardo had a dominant double-double showing as the San Miguel Beermen prevailed over the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 111-107, for their first win in Group B.
The eight-time PBA MVP finished with a double-double of 37 points and 24 rebounds, while reinforcement Jordan Adams and Jaymar Perez contributed 24 and 21 points, respectively.
“This is our first game and we have a long rest so we kinda rusty. In the end, the guys just want to win and had extra effort, especially in the last five minutes when Phoenix was catching up,” said Beermen head coach Jorge Gallent.
Jason Perkins top-scored for the Fuel Masters with 18 points, Jayveous McKinnis and Ricci Rivero added 15 markers apiece, and Rodolfo Alejandro Jr. contributed 10 markers./PN
