MANILA – Marinerong Pilipino Skippers cruised to its second straight win in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup after a 91-82 victory over AMA Online Education Titans the other night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Jhonard Clarito tallied 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists while JR Alabanza has double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Skippers improved 2-0 win-loss slate.
Negrense Mark Yee also had a double-double outing with 11 points and 11 rebounds, as Eliud Poligrates and Roldan Sara had 11 markers each in the balanced attack for the Skippers.
The Skippers unloaded an 18-4 scoring run bridging the second and third quarters to turn a narrow five-point lead, 40-35, to a commanding 18-point advantage, 58-39, with 7:57 left in the frame.
The Titans managed to fight back and knocked to within just nine, 89-80, with under two minutes in the match but Yee shut the door on the Titans and calmly sank his free throws with 47.2 seconds left to play.
Dennis Santos finished with 30 points and eight rebounds, while Aaron Black failed to nab a triple-double as he tallied with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists for the 1-2 Titans.
“Medyo maganda yung dinepensa namin kay Aaron Black,” said Skippers head coach Yong Garcia. “Pero marami pa rin siyang nagawa. Hopefully ‘pag may nakaharap kaming ganyang klaseng player, ma-limit pa namin.”/PN
