PBA D-League: Red Lions wallops Stallions

MANILA  – Metropac-San Beda University Red Lions did not have a hard time putting CD14 Designs-Trinity White Stallions behind with a 119-70 victory in the 2019 PBA D-League at JCSGO Gym in Cubao, Quezon City.

James Canlas spearheaded the strong start for the NCAA men’s basketball champions. He went for 14 in the first quarter on Tuesday and finished with 16 points to lead the Movers’ 18-3 opening salvo.

Ilonggo Clint Doliguez chipped in 12 points while Amiel Soberano and John Bahio had 11 markers each.

Calvin Oftana and Peter Alfaro had 10 points apiece for the Red Lions, which forced a tie for the Foundation Group top spot at 6-1.

“Medyo maganda ang simula namin,” said Red Lions head coach Boyet Fernandez. “Gusto ko lang makita ang attitude ng players naming, how they react in this game, lalo na we’re facing a winless team.”

For the White Stallions which remained at cellar with 0-7 win-loss record, Kimley Medina poured 17 points while John Tayongtong added 14 markers.

Meanwhile, Diliman College-Gerry’s Grill Blue Dragons fanned its hopes for a playoff berth with a 108-95 drubbing of Wangs Basketball Couriers.

Beninese big man Kevin Gandjeto had double-double 33 points and 17 rebounds while Joseph Brutas drained six triples to finish with 19 markers.

The Blue Dragons improved to a 3-3 standing.

It seized an early 40-21 lead and extended it to 23, 62-39, behind Gandjeto and Brutas, but saw the lead dip to as low as eight, 70-62, before Brutas and Gandjeto restored order for the winning team./PN
