MANILA – Ginebra Kings’ Greg Slaughter will be “off the radar” following the end of his contract in the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association season and with trade rumors surrounding him.

In his lengthy Instagram post last night, the Filipino-American center from Cleveland, Ohio announced that he will not be inking a contract extension for the meantime to focus on developing his all-around game.

“Six years, four championships, a lifetime of experiences and memories. It’s been a fun ride being with this team. I will forever be proud to have played for Ginebra, a dream of mine that came true when they drafted me in 2013,” Slaughter said.

“With that, now that my contract has expired, I’ve decided to take a break to be able to work on myself in all aspects. I may not know what the future holds, but one thing is for sure, the best is yet to come!,” he added.

Slaughter was selected first overall by the Kings during the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft. He went on to win six PBA championships with the team, including the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup last month.

The fromer Ateneo Blue Eagles star of the UAAP then thanked the San Miguel management, SMC honcho Ramon S. Ang, and the entire Barangay Ginebra team led by coach Tim Cone, as well as its fans for the “fun ride.”

Prior to his announcement, the 31-year-old Slaughter was linked to several trade rumors, including one that will bring him to the NorthPort Batang Pier in exchange for Filipino German paint maestro Christian Standhardinger.

Slaughter was also part of the original Gilas Pilipinas team under head coach Rajko Toroman and was recently part of the Philippine men’s basketball team that won a gold medal in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games hosted by the country./PN
