MANILA – Carl Bryan Cruz’s transfer to the TNT Tropang Giga from Blackwater Bossing has been made official by the PBA Commissioner’s Office’s trade committee on Friday.

Based on the approved trade, Cruz is moving to the Tropang Giga with the Bossing receiving veteran forward Anthony Jay Washington and TNT’s second round draft picks in 2022 and 2025.

The PBA office took a while to approve Cruz’s transfer. It ordered the two involved teams to revise their initial trade agreement to make it more balanced.

In the original deal, TNT was supposed to acquire Cruz and rookie Rey Mark Acuno while only giving up seldomly-used center Chris Javier and a TNT first round draft pick to the Bossing.

The 6-foot-4 Cruz has showed promise for the Bossing in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup. He submitted averages of 8.1 points, on 33.3-percent shooting from three-point area, to go with 2.7 rebounds.

The former Far Eastern University Tamaraws forward, who battled injuries the past few seasons, has long been under the radar of Tropang Giga head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes.

Washington, on the other hand, is expected to provide veteran presence for the rejigged Bossing after spending his Philippine Cup conference at Tropang Giga’s reserve list.

The 40-year-old Washington, a four-time PBA champions, will be suiting up for his fourth team in his PBA career after several stints with TNT and NorthPort Batang Pier and a two-year stay with Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Washington, the top-overall pick of the Air21 Express in the 2005 PBA Rookie Draft, is the eighth new player acquired by newly-appointed head coach Ariel Vanguardia this offseason.

Earlier acquired by the Bossing via trades were Jvee Casio, Barkley Ebona, Mike Ayonayon, William McAloney and Rashawn McCarthy, and Valandre Chauca and Juneric Baloria from free agency./PN
