MANILA – The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is set to summon Phoenix Fuel Masters forward Calvin Abueva for his alleged lewd gesture towards actress Maika Rivera, girlfriend of Blackwater Elite rookie Bobby Ray Parks Jr.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said the league will investigate the incident that happened during Fuel Masters and Elite’s 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup game on Friday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Marcial said he assigned PBA legal counsel Melvin Mendoza to spearhead the investigation on Parks complaint that Abueva called Rivera a “bitch” and even did a masturbation gesture.
Speaking to the media, Parks said Abueva hurled curse words at Rivera on top of that jacking off gesture in front of her after the PBA veteran was fouled out late in the fourth quarter.
“I understand he plays with antics and plays with people’s minds but why not do that to me? Why would he go off to the side of the court to nobody I had nothing to do, and literally called that person a bitch while looking at the clock?” Parks said.
“Everybody here has people in their lives that they care about. That is a woman – your mother, your sister, your cousin – but that ain’t right. Beyond the game, that’s disrespectful. I wouldn’t call his wife the B word. I wouldn’t,” he added.
“He did it twice. He can do whatever he wants to me, he can hurt me on the court, whatever, but don’t talk about my family, don’t go beyond that. Keep a certain level of professionalism. You don’t do that,” said Parks.
In his defense, Abueva said he only retaliated after Rivera cursed at him, flashed a dirty finger, and called him a “monkey.”
“Ang ginawa sa akin, ang sabi sa akin, ‘Hey, get out of here. Umalis ka rito, fuck you ka.’ Sabi ko, tignan niyo muna ‘yung lamang bago ka gumanyan. Bakit mo ako aanuhin. Nagkamali ka ata ng kinalaban,” Abueva said.
“Ako, gago ako sa court pero ‘yung gagaguhin mo ako, iba ‘yun,” he added. “Wag sila mag-angas na ako pa ‘yung may mali. Nasa court tayo, wala tayo sa labas. Kung nasa labas, pinersonal kita, doon ka mag-react.”/PN
