MANILA – Talk ‘N Text (TNT) KaTropa plans to limit the playing minutes of its veteran guard Jayson Castro in the elimination round matches of the 2020 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup.
KaTropa active coaching consultant Mark Dickel said the team needs Castro fresh for the playoffs. That is where he will be much needed.
“Castro may now need some cut on his playing time,” said Dickel. “It’s a different game in the playoffs, and we want to make sure Jayson is 100 percent for the championship run.”
To make it happen, TNT picked up guards Simon Enciso, Bacolodnon Kib Montalbo and Valandre Chauca during the offseason via trade and draft.
Still with the KaTropa backcourt are veterans Roger Pogoy, Ryan Reyes, Almond Vosotros, and sophomore guard Bobby Ray Parks Jr., who is shifting his focus on the defensive side.
“I’m going for Best Defensive Player of the Year award. Yes, I said it,” the son of the late legendary import Bobby Parks, Sr. posted on his Twitter account.
The Katropa hope they work together fine in a bid to improve from their sixth place finish in the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup. They had an eight-six win-loss record./PN
