MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has defended First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, who recently went public to express her ill feeling towards Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio.
According to the Chief Executive, it was natural for Araneta-Marcos to react that way to the harsh words being thrown at him because she is not used to politics.
“My first reaction is‘what a lucky husband I am that I have a wife na very protective sa akin, na kung may nakitang hindi magandang sinabi tungkol sa akin, she gets very upset. We cannot blame her,” President Marcos said.
“Ang First Lady, hindi sanay sa pulitika ‘yan e. Kami, manhid na kami diyan sa insulto. Siya, hindi siya galing sa political family, kaya siguro she still has to learn, magpalagpas nang kaunti ng ibang masasakit at maaanghang na salita,” he added.
In an interview with broadcaster Anthony Taberna, Araneta-Marcos said she was hurt when Duterte-Carpio allegedly laughed when her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, called President Marcos “bangag.”
Duterte-Carpio, for her part, said Araneta-Marcos’ personal feelings against her have nothing to do with her mandate as the country’s second highest government official as well as DepEd secretary.
President Marcos also said he is planning to personally talk to Duterte-Carpio in the coming days to sort out the issue between his wife and the Vice President.
“I think that she also understands how the First Lady feels, when you have to sit there and listen to these attacks that are being made against your husband,” the President said.
“But mag-uusap kami ni VP Sara tungkol diyan. Huwag niyang masyadong dibdibin, hindi naman siya ‘yung mga nagsabi ng kung anu-ano. Madali naman sigurong plantsahin ‘yung isyu,” he added.
President Marcos has previously said he does not see a reason to remove Duterte-Carpio as Education secretary as the issue won’t affect their working relationship./PN
