PBBM on candidates’ lewd remarks: ‘Unacceptable’

MANILA – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said the sexist or misogynistic remarks being made by some candidates in the 2025 midterm elections are unacceptable.

According to Presidential Communications Office’s Undersecretary Claire Castro, the Chief Executive is glad with the Commission of Elections’ (Comelec) action towards politicians making lewd remarks in campaign sorties.

“Ayon sa Pangulo, hindi katanggap-tanggap ang mga kandidato na ganito ang mga naratibo sa kanilang kampanya,” Castro said in a media briefing at Malacañang Palace on Thursday.

Castro also took an indirect swipe at former President Rodrigo Duterte, who was being lauded and criticized for his cursing and sexist or misogynistic remarks during his presidency.

Recently, Comelec issued a memo against several local candidates for the sexist or misogynistic remarks they are uttering during their campaign sorties.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) also expressed grave concern over increasing incidents of electoral offenses, including red-tagging and lewd remarks in campaign sorties for the midterm polls./PN
