AKLAN – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Aklan will be on heightened alert during the observance of Holy Week and the summer season.
PCG-Aklan will particularly tighten security measures in Caticlan and Cagban ports.
Thousands of passengers are expected to flock to the seaports to spend summer vacation and long weekends in Boracay Island.
Coast Guard Lieutenant Junior Grade John Laurence Banzuela said the PCG-Aklan personnel will intensify their maritime presence through seaborne and coastal patrols.
K-9 units of the Coast Guard are also to be deployed for random patrols and inspections in the ports for the safe travel of the commuting public.
Banzuela stressed information drives in the coastal barangays are also conducted for the safety of vacationers on beaches.
To ensure comfortable travel for outbound and inbound passengers, a multi-agency Malasakit Help Desk will be established in all ports and harbors to handle concerns regarding regulations and travel protocols.
PCG-Aklan is also ready to respond to maritime incidents and to ensure the seaworthiness of roll-on, roll-off vessels and motor boats prior to departure to Romblon, Batangas, Mindoro, and Boracay Island.
