BACOLOD City – In preparation for the upcoming summer, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will inspect resorts in Negros Occidental.
Commander Joe Luviz Mercurio of PCG in northern Negros Occidental said they are expecting an influx of vacationers as the country continues to downgrade its pandemic travel restrictions.
Among others, PCG will check the lifeguards’ capabilities during emergency situations.
The PCG station in northern Negros Occidental is also expected to conduct a series of trainings related to water search and rescue for new lifeguards, as well as for members of the local Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary in Negros Occidental.
Mercurio said some resorts in the province do not have enough lifeguard personnel.
The Philippine Coast Guard, attached to the Department of Transportation, is tasked primarily with enforcing laws within Philippine waters, conducting maritime security operations, safeguarding life and property at sea, and protecting marine environment and resources; similar to coast guard units around the world. In case of a declaration of war, the Coast Guard shall also serve as an attached service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines./PN
